Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better popularly referred to as Queen Latifah, is an American actor, rapper and a singer. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and singer. Queen Latifah's parents were Lancelot as well as Rita Owens. Both were members of the police force. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher who was a teacher the class at Irvington High School. Her father and mother split after Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah attended a Catholic school, and she was educated within Newark New Jersey. She went to in the Baptist church. Latifah refers to an Arabic word that means "delicate and compassionate". Her aunt granted it to her at the age of eight. Latifah was 5-foot-10" tall power forward for her high school team was always a tall girl. She sang the song"Home" from the musical The Wiz in a high school performance. Latifah was a member of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her career in beatboxing. Latifah was one of the founding members of the model of the Flavor Unit which at that the time was comprised of MCs grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to host Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the track. It was signed by Latifah, and released her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
